On the afternoon of October 2, 2024, the People's Committee of Ben Tre Province, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and "The Green Solutions," organized a seminar entitled “New Energy (NE) and Renewable Energy (RE) - Potential and Investment Resources.” This event is part of a series of important activities in the 2024 Ben Tre Investment Promotion Conference.
The seminar aims to highlight the potential and attract investment resources in the energy sector, contributing to the sustainable economic and social development of the province. Experts, investors, and relevant agencies will discuss the opportunities, challenges, and solutions for developing new and renewable energy in Ben Tre. The Green Solutions is collaborating with the People's Committee to operate this event, focusing on promoting sustainable energy practices and innovations.
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ben Tre Province, Tran Ngoc Tam, stated that Ben Tre has a coastline of 65 kilometers, providing significant potential for developing renewable energy (RE) and new energy (NE) projects to promote the economic and social development of the locality. Currently, Ben Tre is focusing on developing and preparing infrastructure and resources to advance clean energy initiatives, including wind energy, solar energy, biomass energy, gas energy, and particularly green hydrogen new energy.
The resolution of the 11th Congress of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee for the term 2020 - 2025 has set the goal of striving to build Ben Tre Province into a relatively developed province in the Mekong Delta by 2025 and in the entire country by 2030. In this context, the overall goal is to expand development space toward the East with various forms of marine economy.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang provided information on the strategy for developing renewable energy (RE) and hydrogen in Vietnam until 2030, with a vision toward 2050. She emphasized that the transition of energy, with a focus on gradually reducing the share of fossil fuels in electricity generation in favor of new energy (NE) and RE, is an inevitable trend worldwide.
At the seminar, representatives discussed, analyzed, shared, and exchanged experiences on technical and financial solutions for producing green hydrogen from solar and wind power; evaluating and selecting technologies and equipment for producing green hydrogen/ammonia. Simultaneously, they emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing support commitments from international organizations, green credit sources, climate financing, green bonds, as well as exploring solutions for research and development for proposed hydrogen production projects in Ben Tre Province.
Delivering his directive at the seminar, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh praised the initiative to organize the event, highlighting the vision of transitioning to a green economy as an inevitable trend and a goal that Vietnam is striving toward, in line with the development orientations outlined in the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This is a path that must be taken in the future; there is no alternative route.
Following the seminar, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic of “Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia Transportation and Storage Technology.” Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Quyên (Winnie Huynh), the General Director of The Green Solutions, chaired the session.
The roundtable addressed the latest advanced technologies, development trends, and optimal solutions for producing, transporting, and storing green hydrogen and green ammonia. It also explored financial solutions, support programs, and operational mechanisms in the emerging green hydrogen industry.
This discussion aimed to help businesses and consultants gain a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges related to financial support and investment in green energy.
Participants posed questions, shared opinions, and engaged in direct discussions with the speakers to clarify the issues of concern. The hydrogen industry is a new sector but is forecasted to play a crucial role in the future, especially in the context of the energy transition towards renewable energy (RE) to achieve the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, as committed by Vietnam at COP26. The ecosystem necessary for hydrogen development encompasses not only mechanisms, financing, and technology but also the participation of various activities.
