The Green Solutions proposed a cooperation opportunity with EVN involving the supply of ammonia fuel for EVN’s coal-fired power plants. The company is currently developing Vietnam’s first green hydrogen production plant in Tra Vinh Province, with an estimated annual output of approximately 182,500 tons of green ammonia.

Deputy General Director Ngo Son Hai welcomed The Green Solutions’ cooperation proposal. He also highlighted that EVN has directed affiliated units to research and develop projects for fuel conversion in compliance with Power Development Plan VIII. This includes Pha Lai Thermal Power Plant Units 1 and 2, which fall under EVNGENCO2’s management.

The two parties also discussed and clarified several issues related to mechanisms for using alternative fuels in power plants, such as the long-term supply capacity of such fuels, electricity pricing, operational mechanisms for power plants participating in the electricity market, and methods of domestic transportation for ammonia to power plants.

According to the National Power Development Plan for the 2021–2030 period with a vision toward 2050 (Power Development Plan VIII), which was approved by the Prime Minister via Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2023, Vietnam will not build any new coal-fired power plants after 2030 or any gas-fired power plants after 2035. This aligns with efforts to reduce carbon emissions and Vietnam’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 as pledged at COP26.
